Beatport has launched Indie Tech – a new standalone genre page for the heavier, more club-focused sound that has developed within contemporary Indie Dance.
Developed with community input, Indie Tech now has its own genre page and Top 100 chart, in addition to a dedicated feature space for tracks and releases. This decision follows outreach to artists and labels across the Indie Dance, Indie Tech, and the wider electronic music community, who showed strong support for giving this sound its own category.
Based on punchy drums, prominent basslines, and bold synth hooks, Indie Tech brings unusual sounds and edgy ideas into peak-time arrangements. Its influences encompass Tech House, Melodic House & Techno, Bass House, and Mainstage, with an emphasis on driving grooves, seismic builds, and dance floor impact.
Creating Indie Tech as a standalone category gives that club-focused sound its own home, while allowing Indie Dance to remain more closely connected to the musical lineage that originally defined it.
This new genre category recognizes Indie Tech’s success and gives artists and labels a major opportunity to build on the momentum they’ve created over the past few years – bringing the sound together in one place.
The Indie Tech genre is now available to select in the genre section of your releases in Label Engine.
