Beatport Now Supports Open-Format Genres

Label Engine Announcements, Distribution, General, News, Tips, Updates

We’re excited to share an important update that directly impacts how releases are delivered and discovered on Beatport.

Beatport has expanded its platform to support open-format genres, moving beyond its traditional electronic focus to now include styles such as hip-hop, R&B, pop, Latin, and more.

This change reflects a broader shift in DJ culture and music consumption, bringing a wider range of genres together in one place.

In line with this update, Label Engine has introduced system improvements to ensure releases can be properly categorized and delivered to Beatport.

What’s New in Label Engine

Label Engine now supports open-format genres as DJ store genre options on the track-level page (previously labeled as “EDM genres”).

Newly supported genres include:

  • Hip-Hop
  • R&B
  • Pop
  • Latin
  • Country
  • Rock

This means users can now select these genres and deliver open-format releases directly to Beatport.

Please note: Releases using these open-format genres are currently not supported for delivery to Juno Download or Traxsource.

Beatport + Beatsource Migration

As part of a larger platform evolution, Beatsource is merging into Beatport, creating a unified home for both electronic and open-format music.

This transition brings together tools, catalogs, and features in one place for DJs, with playlists,  purchase history, and streaming plans carried over to ensure a seamless experience.

Beatport’s expanded genre structure is part of this wider integration, allowing the platform to better reflect the full spectrum of DJ culture across both electronic and open-format music.

How Label Creation Works on Beatport

With the updated delivery flow:

  • If a release is delivered under a label that does not already exist on Beatport, a new label page will be automatically created
  • Automatically generated label pages will not include a logo by default

If you need to make updates to your Beatport label profile, please submit a request using this form.
