Beatport has discontinued the sale of Hip-Hop, R&B & Reggae / Dancehall on the store as of April 7th. These genres will be directed to Beatsource.
Beatsource was launched in 2019 with six core genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Latin, Pop, Dance, and Reggae/Dancehall . It is curated for open-format DJs and offers tracks that get played in urban and top 40 clubs. Curated playlists and spotlights are dedicated to these genres on Beatsource. For future deliveries of these genres, please contact Label Engine for an introduction at Beatsource.
This is intended to help improve Beatport’s customer experience, as Beatport is a specialist for Electronic Dance Music and now only accepts music pertaining to these genres. This change will bring a more precise catalog to customers searching for specific sounds.
In addition, Beatport will rename Trap / Hip-Hop / R&B to Trap / Wave. Beatport recognizes Wave as a genre on the Beatport store in conjunction with Trap, two styles which borrow sounds from one another and have seen great success over recent years. Featuring music from artists such as Kareful, Deadcrow, and Plastician and labels such as Liquid Ritual, Terrorhythm, and Sable Valley, Trap / Wave represents a new generation of electronic music. Furthermore, Beatport will be implementing a new label vetting process starting April 19th. It will require new labels to show proof of relevance to Beatport, to ensure that content delivered to Beatport is relevant. All new labels must be pre-approved by Beatport before deliveries can start. If your label does not meet these criteria, it may not be approved for Beatport’s service. If your label is approved but content received is determined as irrelevant later on, it may be removed from the store. There will be more information available soon on this.
