YouTube is thrilled to announce their new “Top Fan exclusive videos” feature to help artists connect in a more personal way with their most dedicated viewers through exclusive content made just for them! Eligible top fans will be informed about exclusive videos via a push notification and in their Notification inbox. Artists’ top 1% of fans are determined daily based on their Watch Time over the past 28 days. To enable this feature for fans, Artists can use the ‘Top Fans’ toggle in YouTube Studio’s visibility settings when uploading content.
What is a Top Fan video?
Top fan videos offer artists an easy way to reward fans and can be about anything the artist would like to share with their biggest supporters on YouTube. The content can range from quick 60-second Shorts to longer video updates. Examples include:
- “Thank You” & Personal Messages: Direct, friendly videos thanking top fans for their loyalty
- Behind-the-Scenes Footage: Sharing exclusive clips from the road during a tour or on the set of a music video shoot
- Alternate Versions: Giving top fans a first listen to alternate mixes of popular songs
- Surprise Drops & Pre-Release Teasers: Sending an exclusive promotional message to alert top fans about an upcoming release, secret show, or surprise drop before the general public
- Exclusive Events Invitations: Invite Top Fans to exclusive events, share sign-up links or venues and access code information.
How it works:
In YouTube Studio, artists will now see a new ‘Top Fans’ toggle in their visibility settings when uploading content. This selection allows artists to create and deliver videos specifically to their top fans.
Fans will be notified of their Top Fan Video via a push notification, their Notifications inbox, and through a special promotion on their YouTube Home Feed. Only top fans can view and access these exclusive videos. If they choose to comment, their top fan status will be visible to others in the comments, and artists can engage further through comments and shares. If a top fan shares their video link with someone who isn’t a top fan of the artist, the non-superfan will not be able to view the content.
Please note: this feature is only available for Official Artist Channels. Top Fan videos cannot currently be scheduled in advance. Instead, these videos will have to be manually published at the desired time. Top Fan Video Scheduling is set to come in late Q3.
