Following their About the Song rollout, Spotify has introduced the next phase of their spotlight series, Behind the Music: Song DNA. Built into the Now Playing view, SongDNA offers fans a new interactive way to engage with their favorite music by shining a spotlight on the songwriters, producers, composers, and engineers.
Simply tap the SongDNA card to explore the writers, producers, and collaborators behind a song, see the samples and interpolations used, and browse the covers that inspired the track. By tapping a creator, fans can discover other artists and collaborations they’ve worked on. The interactive feature allows fans to follow the connections between different tracks, artists, and genres, giving them a deeper understanding of how the track came to be.
How It Works:
– Open the Now Playing view
– Scroll down to the SongDNA card on supported tracks
– Tap to see the song’s collaborators, samples, interpolations, covers, and discover the connections.
STRENGTHENING CREDIT ACCURACY
As the Beta experience continues to evolve, Spotify is also introducing Spotify for Artists SongDNA Tooling to eligible artist and label teams to strengthen their credit accuracy and build more reliable long-term data. SongDNA currently gathers its information from DDEX-delivered credits via labels & distributors, however, this tool allows the artist and their team to add supplemental data to achieve a more complete dataset alongside the delivered credits. Please note, this new tool only edits data in the SongDNA experience and will not directly edit DDEX or the consumer Credits view.
To use the Spotify for Artists SongDNA Tooling:
– In Spotify for Artists, select “Music” in the navigation bar
– Go to the Released Song Pages
– Click the “SongDNA” tab and “View credits”
– Choose the artist whose SongDNA page to manage
– Select a song to review.
The feature is rolling out in beta to all Premium users globally throughout April.
