Youtube added to our network of stores (Important To Read)

Label Engine Updates

Youtube  needs no introduction. As one of the most visited sites in the world, its considered to be the number 1 source of music in the planet. For the past few months we have been beta testing and exploring the options with them and we are finally able to open it to our labels, please be sure to read the full post as there is VERY IMPORTANT information you need to know about how it works.

How does Youtube make money?

Youtube is an ads based site, pretty similar to how subscription/ads based stores like Spotify, Deezer, Slacker and all those work. By now you may have noticed a big chunk of videos on Youtube display ads at the beginning, during or the end of videos. Some are “Pay per click” which means people only get paid if someone clicks on the ad or link and some are “pay per stream” which means they will pay for how many times the ad is viewed regardless of how many people click on it (the latter is less likely).

How will my label make money?

There are two parts to Youtube monetization:

1) As a content supplier we submit the release to Youtube (just like i works with any store) to claim “ownership” of the sound recording. Once that’s established Youtube will use technology that allows them to match audio and wave forms to music uploaded all over their site, once they detect a new asset is being used by an user, it will create a claim that will allow you to monetize your song on their channel.

To summarize what that means: We upload the music to Youtube > Youtube finds matches > The song is monetized off ads revenue > You get paid.

This option will be added to all our labels, no further action is required.

2) You can join our network to monetize videos/visuals uploaded to your channel. The second part to Youtube monetization is the ability to become a partner through our network and place ads on videos/visuals on your own channel/account. As a partner not only are you allowed to generate money but you will unlock features only available for partners like longer upload time, the ability to brand your page further, place links on your videos and also cross promote videos.

This part is optional for our labels, we know some of you already have deals with other networks or some that are not interested in placing ads in their channels. If you wish to participate then please email us.

What about my channel and copyright notifications?

First of all, let me get this out of the way because its the number 1 asked question when it comes to Youtube. Copyright Notifications ARE NOT copyright strikes, they are very different. A copyright notification is youtube letting you know who the owner of the track is, its like when you go to beatport, they let you know what label the track is on right? its the same. A copyright strike is when you use a video, song or sample and the label/publisher reports the video/song to youtube as used against the law, that’s when you get in trouble, not with a notification.

Regardless of that, we can whitelist your label’s channel (we can’t whitelist channels from labels/people we don’t distribute) so please be sure to email us your youtube username (just the username, dont send passwords please) and we will add them to it.

Delivery

We will prioritize new releases moving forward, back catalog will be taken care of as we go along and may take a few months to be successfully in place so we ask for your patience with that.
