This week, Spotify released its new app “Stations” available to Apple and Android users in the US. The experimental app was quietly released last year in Australia to test its performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stations connects with your existing Spotify account and imports data pertaining to your preferences. It then creates personalized playlists for immediate consumption and will continue to curate on its own. Users are able to provide input by simply searching an artist or tapping the thumbs up or down button. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comparable to Pandora, Stations is a simple platform intended to replicate the experience of listening to the radio. Its minimalist layout allows any user to navigate the interface with ease. It is essentially the same feature found on the original app but without the excess clutter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This platform intends to help users by providing a new avenue to find new songs and artists similar to those the user already likes. It will follow its current model of ad supported streaming for its free user base while providing unlimited skips for its premium users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within its first week of launch, the app already has over 350 reviews on the Google Play Store. Averaging a 3.7 rating, negative reviews are expected as higher usage exposes new bugs within the app. As Spotify rolls out new updates, expect a refined radio app meant to keep the music playing process fast and simple. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotify’s intent is to capture market space from a crowded field of competitors. By offering a closely resembling product, it seems that Spotify is trying to attract users leaving the Pandora platform.
